Fabrications that last

To improve safety and reliability of installations and make it easier to maintain and replace instruments, we produce a range of fabricated products using coded welders whose work can pass non destructive (dye pen or x-ray) testing as standard, ensuring high quality welds that last.

Pipe and Tube Fabrication

Fabricating pipe sections, spool pieces, stilling wells, support tubes and baffles from pipe and cutting, bending and prepping instrument tubing for impulse lines, panel and plate assemblies.  For more specialist applications, such as flow nozzles and orifice flanges, we have partnered with Wika, a specialist with UK based mechanical engineers.  Call our engineers or email us with your application information.

With a history spanning over 40 years AMS fabrications have focused specifically on instrumentation and control applications.

Sold to support our own level, flow and valve technology, we also fabricate to suit other manufacturers instrumentation, often being able to supply the package cheaper and quicker than the manufacturers themselves due to our flexible workspace and systems.

We have fabricated a range of spool pieces or pipe sections to enable removal of valves for maintenance, replace sections of pipework where new instruments are being installed, as additional sections to allow fitting of smaller valves or flowmeters, or as part of a complete assembly with instrumentation installed within.

In applications where fitting of level transmitters and switches can cause erratic or false readings due to the conditions, including agitators, inlet flows, turbulent conditions etc, we can fabricate baffles, stilling wells or standpipes to protect the instrument or provide an area with calmer conditions to allow for accurate reading of the level.

  • Coded welding to ASME Section IX and ISO9606-1#
  • NDT and hydrostatic testing
  • Complete documentation packages and full material traceability
  • Custom painting (for arduous offshore environments)
  • Exotic material options including duplex, hastelloy and Inconel

Understanding Basic Magnetic Reed Switch Operations for Float Switches

Magnetic Reed Switches and Float SwitchesFloat switches are fundamentally a basic level control product often containing a reed switch to perform the required level control action.  The most confusing part in selecting a float switch is determining the magnetic reed...

Types of Float Switches

Different Types of Float Switch and Their PricesThere are a number of different types of float switches, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.  Most designs can be made to different specifications to suit the ruggedness requirements of an application....

Train level measurement, gauges and indicators

To solve a specific problem with access and the lack of height between a fuel tank and the trains body, AMS have modified the head of our approved level sensors to allow fitting in confined spaces. This development also removed the need for the transmitter to be located in a separate box on the side of the tank and allowed the sensor to be wired directly to the indicators, saving significant additional costs in materials and wiring time.

Train level measurement and control

Advances in the way instrumentation can be powered due to processing capabilities at reduced power levels, combined with the ever-continuing miniaturisation of electronics capability, has created the opportunity for rail companies to consider more modern electronic/digital technology as an alternative to the traditional methods for level measurement.

Refuelling Control Valve and Dry Break Coupling

The Refuelling Control Valve is a float operated servo valve, designed to limit the amount of liquid fed into a tank to a specific level. The coupling prevents fuel leakage when fuelling a locomotive and automatically closes when the fuelling hose coupling is removed.
