Control Valves

Our range of mechanical valves were designed to tackle pollution, prevent waste and make remote installations safer. They can be used as a last line of defence backing up existing electronic technology or on their own.

We manufacture a range of automatic mechanically operated valves for a range of safety, environmental and industrial control applications.

Using British foundries and local supply chains, along with robust self-maintainable designs our valves allow for a lifetime product with a low environmental impact.

Most valves were born from the original in-flight refuelling servo valve, where quality, accuracy and repeatability were essential. This valve was used to design our solenoid operated servo valves initially for Esso and Shell in Oil & Gas and Petrochem industries, the refuelling control valves for Alstom, Bombardier and Hitachi in the Rail industry and our back pressure regulating and flow regulating valves onboard military ships.

Our float operated density valves were designed to prevent incorrect fuel filling at remote airfields and then a cast version for filtration skids to prevent polluted water being pumped overboard in marine applications.

Servo Valves

Tank Filling Control

This pilot controlled tank filling valve is used to prevent overfilling of a storage tank during fuel delivery. The valve is installed in the fixed fuel delivery line between the isolating valves. The valve provides a controlled closure without any sudden shock .

Density Operated Servo Valve

Using our unique mechanically operated Thornton Pilot, our servo valves have been widely used in pumped applications to prevent the delivery of the wrong grade of fuel into a tank. The valve and pilot combination monitors the fluid on delivery and automatically shuts off the valve if the wrong fluid density is detected.

Level Sensing Valve 

A remote float operated valve, situated in either a tank or bund can be used as a pilot to operate our servo valves within a drain line. These valves have been used successfully in oil water or filter water separators with one float option sensing the interface level between fuel and water and automatically controlling the servo drain valve to drain water without spilling fuel.

Pressure Regulating 

Designed to mechanically regulate pressure in a pipe-line without the need for power, our mechanical pressure regulators can be fitted to our servo valves to control upstream and or downstream pressures in a pipeline, reducing energy used. Using an internal diaphragm the pressure, back pressure and dual back pressure regulators can be set and adjusted with the simple twist of a locking screw. 

Flow Regulating

Available in 2”, 3” and 4” variants the flow regulating pilot uses the servo valve to maintain a set flow/pressure across a built in orifice plate. It offers switched flow control between two set points and has been successfully installed in fuels systems, regulating fuel flow as well as chilled water by-pass applications.

Filling Valves and Couplings

Refuelling Control Valves 

AMS filling control valves are a range of mechanical, float operated servo valves designed to limit the amount of liquid fed into a tank to a specific level. Also known as a 'Flyte' Valve it has been supplied into the Rail Industry for many years, not only for fuel tanks to prevent diesel spillages during filling, but also coolant, de-icing and water tank systems on rolling stock in both the UK and overseas. 

Dry Break Coupling 

Designed to fit either directly to our filling valves, or remotely at the end of an extension pipe, the coupling prevents leakage from the filling hose when filling a tank and provides a dry break when disconnecting the filling hose from the tank. Used as standard throughout the UK rail industry our filling valves and dry break couplings provide a complete safety and environmental solution to fuel tank filling requirements.

The fluid differential valve can be used in both fill lines and drain line. Initially designed as a safety product for use within remote airport locations to act as a mechanical backup in preventing incorrect grades of fuel being pumped into airplanes and storage tanks. The density sensitive valve float can be ballasted to respond to a 1% change in density and has since been used on numerous discharge systems where product density is critical. 

Aggressive Fluid Applications 

AMS have manufactured density sensitive valve using PVDF body materials (others available) to enable its use with aggressive mediums within a chemical plant. The density sensitive valve float can be ballasted to respond to a 1% change in density and has since been used on numerous discharge systems where product density is critical.

Solenoid Operated Valve 

This solenoid-actuated pilot controlled tank filling valve is used to prevent overfilling of a storage tank during delivery of a fluid. The valve can be operated by a high-level alarm and provides a controlled closure without any sudden shock that could affect a pump's operation.

Density Operated Servo Valve

Our servo valves have been widely used in pumped applications to prevent the delivery of the wrong grade of fuel into a tank. It monitors the fluid on delivery and automatically shuts off the valve if the wrong fluid density is detected.

Water Drain Valve
